Hyperion launches as Europe’s pioneering fund for security, aerospace, and AI investments

• The Spanish National Securities Market Commission has registered Hyperion Fund FCR, Spain’s first venture capital fund dedicated to aerospace, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and dual-use defence sectors (excluding weapons and lethal equipment in compliance with Article 8 SFDR ESG).

• The objective of this growth equity fund is to raise €150 million and invest in emerging European technology companies, with a special focus on Spanish SMEs, supporting their growth, competitiveness, and internationalisation.

• The manager of this FCR is Singular Asset Management SGIIC, part of Singular Bank, Spain’s leading independent private bank with €12.39 billion under management.

• The four partners in the investment team are experts in industrial security and defence, such as Joaquín Ortiz Escobar and José Antonio Bartrina Giménez; in geostrategy and international relations, such as Pablo Casado Blanco; and in finance and investment, such as Ricardo Gómez-Acebo Botín, as well as Daniel Lorrain, in his capacity as Principal.

• The international advisory board is made up of statesmen such as former NATO Secretary General and former Prime Minister of Denmark Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Ambassador and former US Under Secretary of State for Global Affairs Paula Dobriansky, and former French Minister of Defence, Home Affairs, Justice and Foreign Affairs Michèle Alliot-Marie. It also includes Robert Murray, CIO of SAAB Inc., Richard Hurowitz, senior advisor at Rothschild, and unicorn investors Martin Varsavsky and Nicole Junkermann.

• The anchor investor is the Nortia family office, with holdings in Sacyr, Merlin and Arcano, and stakes in Q-energy, McWin, Serena and Seaya, in which it is also the lead investor alongside Iberdrola in the Andrómeda fund.

• The current geostrategic scenario reinforces the need to strengthen Europe’s technological sovereignty and security capabilities. Investment in aerospace, cybersecurity and defence technologies have grown by over 50% and are expected to continue expanding over the next decade.

• The Hyperion Fund FCR investment team has made significant progress on a portfolio of projects with high estimated returns, offering potential investors financial diversification and sectoral differentiation. This fund is among the first in Europe to focus on this strategic segment.

• The technologies in which Hyperion will invest are experiencing global growth, including aerospace sector, with new projects such as the Future Combat Air System, cybersecurity, AI and quantum computing.

• Investments in dual-use technologies in the defence sector also accelerate innovation in telecommunications, energy, and mobility. Capital invested in this field enables the development of drones, satellites, radars, navigators, batteries, and robotics, as it did with the internet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, lasers, infrared, microwaves, and ultrasound, benefiting society as a whole.
